Meta Tracking Internet Users’ Browsing Activity
The iOS app injects codes into every website “without the consent from the user, nor the website provider,” allowing Facebook and Instagram to track ‘every tap’ and ‘scrolling behaviour,’ according to former Google engineer Felix Krause.
The data collected could be used to steal sensitive data such as home addresses and exposes a ‘big risk for the user,’ he stated. ““there is no way to opt-out of the custom in-app browser.”
Meta released a privacy white paper last month - in which it stated, “balance privacy and integrity when using people’s data to reduce bad experiences with our technologies”.
