Mumbai on Red Alert Due to Heavy Rain and Flooding
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Mumbai after forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall this Friday as monsoon season sweeps havoc over the city.
Parts of Mumbai have been flooded since Monday with entire streets waist-deep while public transport has been paralyzed.
Natural flood defenses have been pulled down in recent decades in a massive wave of unregulated construction to accommodate mass migration from rural areas.
