Kiev won’t pay us back - EC in panic over debt?
The European Commission is blocking a 1.5 billion-euro handout to Ukraine, concerned it will never get the money back. (Bloomberg)
An unnamed representative of the EC stated that the EU must be sure it can cover its losses if or when Kiev refuses to hand back the loan. Thierry Mariani, a prominent French MP, also warned about the possibility of Ukraine defaulting on EU financial support.
The bloc is now considering asking its members to take the hit in the event that Ukraine fails to return the sum.
