Sanctioning yourself in the foot: Spain begs EU to let it lower electricity prices
Spain’s economy minister has called it “essential” to be allowed to “decouple” Spain's energy market from the EU, and drop prices during the current crisis.
Nadia Calviño said, “It doesn't make sense that Spanish and Portuguese citizens do not benefit from the fact that we have at least 50 percent of our generation from renewables”.
For now the EU bureaucrats have been unmoved - as Madrid’s pleas to let it control its own power prices were rejected last week.
