Madrid begins PCR testing for monkeypox as cases peak
The Community of Madrid announced that monkeypox cases had peaked on Tuesday with 96 positive and 40 suspected cases.
The region began PCR testing and genomic sequencing of the virus to determine the positivity of cases in five public hospitals.
"With all due caution, and because of the date of onset of symptoms, we believe we have reached the peak of the epidemic curve," said the Madrid Assembly member Enrique Ruiz Escudero, during a visit to the Microbiology Laboratory of the Gregorio Maranon General University Hospital.
