WE SHALL NOT GROW OLD (2018 documentary)
This film is not a traditional WW1 documentary. The showcased stories are not from historians, academics, or generals who never stepped foot in a trench, but from men that trudged through the darkness of a Jewish Banker War. Nearly every one of the speakers in the film mention that they lost a friend to the war, illuminating the profound cost WW1 had on the world. (60 million troops deployed/6 to 13 million dead)
The constant sounds of artillery during the film are symbolic of the constant fear WWI soldiers had to deal w/, & helps to underscore the violence, depravity, & intensity of WW1. The color images in the film shows how real the war was for all who fought in it. It also removes the thought many have in mind of WWI being a "black & white war."
"It is not a historical story. It may not even be entirely accurate, but it's the memories of the men who fought – they're just giving their impressions of what it was like to be a soldier." Peter Jackson (director)
