The Genie Is Out of the Bottle

Self-destruction isn’t imperative for evolution but the genie is forever out of the bottle. While nuclear weapons can be developed by various nations, and/or fall into the hands of rogue terrorists, AI can be, and already is being, used for all forms of abuse, which is virtually certain to produce large-scale, devastating results by ill-intending parties large and small.
Though I am not very knowledgeable about the technological aspects of AI, it seems to me that the human beings who create and program it may also, consciously or unconsciously, input aspects of their own personalities, preferences, prejudices, arrogance, selfishness, duplicitousness, aggression, dishonesty, sadism, lack of conscience, etc., that can be incorporated into and, perhaps autonomously, further developed by the AI itself.

While most things may be neutral in themselves, or clearly intended for specific functions and applications, up until now their use or misuse required the deliberate intentions and actions of a human being. The intentions, morals and ethics of those who produce things not generally regarded as, but sometimes utilized as, weapons, have not previously been relevant, nor do they compel uses for which they weren’t specifically intended.
So, moral and ethical garbage in, moral and ethical garbage out, with the possibilities of unforeseen – or ignored – negative ramifications of a technology with the unprecedented abilities of self-choice.

Garbage in, Garbage Out

AI is also welcome by those who are transhumanists, i.e. people who are in a mad rush to merge with machines, long before they have ever become true human beings. True human beings don’t try to fill the void created by their own insecurities, inabilities, deficiencies, ignorance and existential fears with technological pseudo fixes.

And true human beings don’t develop, and seek to apply, their technological abilities to external matters without conscience, and consideration of moral and ethical guidelines.

Consider this:
Sam Altman Just Made the 1 Mistake No CEO Should Ever Make
Assuming the article accurately described the situation, then saying:
“That, by the way, is the real problem. If you’re building a company that makes a product people think might have the potential to bring about the end of humanity, trust seems like a thing you should guard jealously.”

…falls far short of recognizing what the “real problem” is.

In 1987, long before the current technology had been effectively created, Billy Meier foretold what we today call AI and how it would be used in wars and, ultimately, turn against humankind to seek its/our destruction (search: computer).

Lesser known may be Meier’s earlier warnings, such as in 1958, where he wrote about self-deception facilitated by movies, television, and electronic media, which is now further developed, spread through CGI, deep fakes, and will also be increased with AI:

And in the Third Millennium the time comes when big parts of the continents disappear and the people will have to flee to the mountains, yet their sense of the catastrophes will only be of short duration, because they will forget everything again quickly and therefore make an effort to do much rebuilding, because they are already creating phantasmagoria, through movies and television, as well as later through a worldwide netting of computers and electronics, through which they deceive themselves and see things that do not exist, and are only visually determined for the eye, subsequently their sense for reality disappears and they can no longer distinguish between reality and fiction, whereby they lose themselves more and more in the labyrinth of life, while those who produce phantasms commercially as well as religious and sectarian phantasms, have an easy game with the people of faith, who they deceive in every possible manner and make them into humble beings, like cringing dogs.
