"Preparing to Apply for Membership": Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt Plan to Join BRICS
BRICS is the acronym coined over two decades ago that is associated with five major emerging markets: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. BRICS members account for over 40% of the global population and nearly a quarter of global GDP.
None of the BRICS leaders have publicly condemned Russian President Putin for his invasion of Ukraine earlier this year.
And now, the expansion of BRICS could be imminent as Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt are in discussions to join the group of emerging market economies.
"All these countries [Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt] have shown their interest in joining [BRICS] and are preparing to apply for membership. I believe this is a good step, because expansion is always looked upon favorably, it will definitely bolster BRICS' global influence," BRICS International Forum President Purnima Anand told Russian newspaper Izvestia.
Anand said that the group's 14th summit last month in China held expansion talks. Adding Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt could open up a new era for global development as they would boost multilateral cooperation and comes at a time when the US and its Western partners are rebelling against globalization.

Leaked Documents Reveal Facebook ‘Bot’ Adviser Secretly Getting Paid by U.S. Regime Change Agency
Documents shared with MintPress reveal that Valent Projects—a shadowy communications firm that advises social media platforms such as Facebook on alleged state-backed online influence campaigns—has itself received $1.2 million from U.S. intelligence front USAID, for “counter disinformation and communications support.”
This relationship has hitherto never been publicly acknowledged, and the resulting income is not reflected in the company’s published accounts.
On Valent’s direction, Facebook has purged huge numbers of Sudanese accounts and pages critical of the Western-backed government, helping to keep a controversial civilian and military administration in power. There are also suspicions the company may have played a role in the mass suppression of Ethiopian voices online supporting the government of Abiy Ahmed, and opposing U.S. attempts to overthrow him.
Valent Projects is the creation of Amil Khan, a veteran BBC and Reuters journalist turned British intelligence-adjacent information warfare professional. For many years, Khan worked on secret Foreign Office projects in Syria. There, he ran covert psyops campaigns targeting domestic and international audiences, trained ostensibly independent opposition journalists and activists to communicate effectively with the media, and provided propaganda support to numerous armed groups trained, funded, and armed by London and Washington.
On June 7, it was revealed (https://thegrayzone.com/2022/0....6/07/paul-masons-cov that Khan was also working closely with British journalist Paul Mason in an effort to deplatform The Grayzone, as part of a wider personal crusade against the anti-war, anti-imperialist left over the matter of Ukraine.
Leaked emails between the pair exposed how Mason suggested subjecting The Grayzone—which he baselessly and bizarrely believed to be a Chinese and Russian intelligence operation—to “relentless deplatforming” via “full nuclear legal” attacks, official probes by government bodies, and cutting the website and its contributors off from online donation sources such as PayPal.
This was a fate MintPress News, its founder Mnar Adley and senior staff writer Alan MacLeod suffered (https://www.wsws.org/en/articl....es/2022/05/04/uofx-m in May this year—an egregious development Mason spoke of approvingly in the leaked emails. House Passes $850 Billion NDAA, Adding $37 Billion More Than Biden Requested
The House on Thursday (July 14) passed its version of the 2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that authorizes $850.3 billion for military spending, increasing President Biden’s requested budget by $37 billion.
The massive spending bill passed in a vote of 329-101, with 62 Republicans and 39 Democrats voting nay. The Senate still has to pass its version of the NDAA, which is even bigger than the House one at $858.5 billion. Once it passes the Senate, the two chambers will then negotiate the final version.
The House bill authorizes $45 million in funding for a new nuclear-capable cruise missile that could be launched from ships or submarines. Biden’s requested budget would have eliminated funding for the missile.
Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) attempted to rein in the massive spending by offering one amendment that would reduce the NDAA to Biden’s original request of $813 billion and one that would have slashed the Pentagon’s funding by $100 billion. But both efforts were voted down.
The NDAA will give the Pentagon $1 billion to arm Ukraine, although a separate aid package to fund the war will likely be passed on its own once the $40 billion bill Biden signed in May runs out.

U.S. Has Clinched a Deal With the Saudis for Normalization Steps Toward Israel
US President Joe Biden, during his visit to Jeddah this weekend, will announce the successful brokering of an agreement between Saudi Arabia and Egypt that will see Riyadh take steps toward normalization with Israel, a Middle East diplomat confirmed to The Times of Israel Thursday (July 14).
The normalization measures will include Saudi Arabia opening its airspace to Israeli flights to the Far East in addition to rolling out direct flights between Israel and Saudi Arabia for Muslim pilgrims, the Middle East diplomat said.
Israel and Saudi Arabia do not have official diplomatic relations, but covert ties have warmed in recent years as Riyadh and its de facto ruler, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, have reportedly come to see Israel as a strategic partner in the battle against Iranian influence in the region.
