Two common and distinct examples come to mind of how we Earth human beings misuse our intellects and rationality. And these are extreme cases which I provide to make the point. The tendency is for practitioners of each case to see their way as the correct one while scorning the other approach. But really, it appears that both are wrong. I think of two people walking in a forest – the number-crunching intellectual type and the feelings-driven artistic type. The intellectual type admires the wonders of Creation by imagining things at a cellular level and the complexity of all the biological processes which have been learned about. He or she has an experience largely based on learned and imagined information superimposed on the actual reality, but neglects to open himself/herself to a direct perception of the entire experience, including that which is fine fluidal. The "artist" experiences the forest by measuring feelings and sensual perceptions and would insist that the intellect plays no part in that experience. But in reality, in order to truly perceive and have the necessary conscious or unconscious registering of the experience and the necessary cognitions, the intellect is required. The process cannot happen without it, regardless of how un-intellectual someone may think himself/herself to be.

144) Your intellect and your rationality are first and foremost bound to the material space-time-definition, however they are also able to comprehend things of the fine-fluidalness and hence rise themselves above earthly space and time-definitions into the high-fine-fluidal spacelessness and timelessness, and indeed through the energies and powers of the consciousness which are able to move outward via the pineal gland and manifest themselves; it is therefore an irrational teaching to claim that intellect and rationality could never move timelessly outside of the material space and the time.

143) Intellect and rationality are therefore, for the truth-human being, the driving power out of his or her consciousness which in turn receives its life-energy out of the spirit-form through which the material body primarily awakens to the life.

It is our irrational materialism which curtails and limits our comprehension ability so much and prevents us from accurately perceiving what is real. The relevant sections in Goblet of the Truth explain that it is our rationality which would bring us to pay attention and perceive everything and not just remain with a rumination about only that which has a coarse material form. Only with a complete perception of the whole reality of a situation can we become cognisant of it and thus become knowledgeable about it.

How important is the intellect and rationality in the scheme of Creation?

We have learned that Creation evolves itself by means of the human spirit-form which in turn evolves by means of the material consciousness of the connected human being. The material consciousness has the job of gathering love, knowledge and wisdom. Meanwhile, the intellect and rationality is the human being's driving power, which comes from the consciousness, which is powered by the spirit-form.

Intellect, rationality and logic are exactly the tools we need to come to perceive and follow the creational laws and recommendations. But despite Earth humanity's terrific advances in science and clever achievements and inventions, we are far from being rational and logical. For so many who have completely submitted to intellectualism which is locked into only a material perspective, and who pride themselves on this, the prophet has this to say: "…true intellect, true rationality and true logic have become as strange and unknown to you as the alphabet is to a cow". - Goblet of the Truth (p. 517, 28:154.)

People who dismiss the truth of a non-material realm of influence, including the power of the thoughts, very often express the view that anyone who thinks that those things are real is irrational and is not using their intellect. But we are coming to understand that the opposite is true. We can never come to understand the non-coarse-material realm – or rather, the fine-fluidal realm – through belief because belief does not allow any direct experience and cognition. We can only understand the fine-fluidal realm with the correct use of our intellect combined with rationality.
