During the Cold War between the U.S. and U.S.S.R., each country pointed their nukes at the other. It was clear to the world, if one fired a nuke at the other, the other would fire back, ensuring MAD - mutally assured destruction. The U.S.S.R. put many of its nukes in Ukraine. If the U.S. fired back, Ukraine would be decimated in an effort to stop more nukes from hitting the U.S.
Once the Iron Curtain (U.S.S.R) collapsed in 1991, Ukraine and 14 other countries rushed to declare their independence from Russia (the former U.S.S.R.). Ukraine suddenly had the 3rd largest stock of nuclear missiles. In 1994, Bill Clinton, the U.K. and Russia convinced Ukraine to give their nukes back to Russia. In exchange, all 3 countries agreed to protect Ukraine from invasion and respect their borders.
In 2014, Russia violated that agreement and invaded and annexed Crimea. Obama and the U.K. stood by and did nothing. Biden blocked 3 weapons transfer to Ukraine in 2021 and slow-walked any additional help in 2022, allowing Ukraine to be decimated.
