Ukraine has no control over military bio-laboratories. The Ukrainian government is not allowed to publish sensitive information about this program. One of the laboratories is located in Kharkov, the second largest city in Ukraine. In January 2016, at least 20 Ukrainian soldiers died there in two days due to a flu-like virus. Another 200 soldiers were hospitalized. The Ukrainian government did not provide any information about the soldiers who died.
Hepatitis A broke out under suspicious circumstances in 2018 in southeastern Ukraine, where a number of biological laboratories are located. In January 2018, 37 people with hepatitis A were hospitalized in Mykolaiv. Police have launched an investigation. In the same city, more than 100 people contracted cholera in 2015. In the summer of 2017, 60 people with hepatitis A were hospitalized in the city of Zaporizhzhya. In June 2017, 19 children from an orphanage were hospitalized with hepatitis A. In November of the same year, cases of hepatitis A were reported in Kharkov.
The United States and Ukraine have jointly established the Center for Science and Technology of Ukraine (STCU). Over the past 20 years, STCU has invested more than $ 285 million in approximately 1,850 projects led by scientists who previously worked on the development of weapons of mass destruction, the investigative journalist found.
