On the left, this row of stupas appears to be aligned in an array.
In the middle, the same stupa design can be seen dotting the countryside in remote areas.
On the right, an egg-shaped energy field is depicted as emanating from this stupa on an old Tibetan tapestry. Although, it is generally considered to be a sepulchral monument—a place of burial or a receptacle for Buddhist religious objects, the architecture actually predates Buddhism itself.
In this excerpt from a Tibetan text, Guide to Proportions by Tulku Sangye Lhawang, the wording of this passage admonishes and warns against any deviation from its design, suggesting a much different purpose:

“Otherwise, what is fashioned according to your own preference
Will not inspire faith but waste resources.
Having therefore cast aside such innovative, unconventional styles,
The intelligent should take note of proper proportions.”
