Nyanaponika Thera, shown on the left, was a Sri Lankan (formerly known as Ceylon) Theravada Buddhist monk and scholar. He was born in Germany as Siegmund Feninger in 1901. When World War II broke out in 1939, the British Government had all German males’ resident in their colonies, including Ceylon, consigned to concentration camps, suspecting them to be German spies. Nyanaponika was interned first in Ceylon and later in northern India. Despite these experiences as a prisoner of war, he compiled an anthology of texts on Satipatthana meditation. Satipatthana is translated from Pali as, “foundations of mindfulness”.
Years later after the war had ended, Nyanaponika released his book, The Heart of Buddhist Meditation, A Handbook of Mental Training Based on the Buddha’s Way of Mindfulness. On the far right, is the spiritual symbol for Discipline (Disziplin) which lies at the core of developing mindful consciousness.
Ptaah: 46. The individual authors always claimed to be the authors of the writings or books themselves and even claimed that they were also the translators of the original writings from Pali and Sanskrit, although Sfath and Asket truthly did this work.
Billy: And what about the person who wrote the book you mentioned? Where did this person get the knowledge of the meditation teachings I wrote?
Ptaah: 48: You mean the Buddhist monk Nyanaponika – he got his meditation wisdom from your scriptures as well as from various others.
