I was not raised "religiously". God was never mentioned or spoke of in the home. When I got to 14, the Gideons came to my school and gave everyone a small Bible. It's by reading that book that I came to know the Lord. By the time I was 19, I wanted to "attend church". I tried many. But I walked out of every single one of them either shaking my head or feeling EXTREMELY uncomfortable. I understand now, 32 years later, that God's church is not 4 walls and a steeple. It's God's people. As a matter of fact, soon after I was given that Bible, some preachers came knocking at the door (not the same preachers that gave me the Bible - completely different organization) - my mother told me to be very quiet, don't let them know we are home and to not answer the door. Once they had left and were a few doors down, I came out of our house, followed them and asked them what they wanted to say. I spoke to them on the side of the road for a very long time. That's the best "church" I ever went to.
