NZ Public Poo Law Dirty Protest As Campers Smeared
New Zealand "Freedom Campers" - who live rent-free on public land - are urging changes in the law that allows anyone to defecate in public if they think they aren't being watched to not demonize campers.
The group argue it is unfair to blame the public poo problem on them, when it should focus on those who don't dispose of their waste responsibly whether camping or not.
Tourism minister Stuart Nash dumped the blame on freedom campers in late 2020 when he claimed they "pull over to the side of the road… and sh*t in our waterways."
Time to wipe the slate clean?
