For those of you who don't know what a LHC is located at CERN (Nuclear research university) on the French Swiss border. A LHC or Large Hadron Collider is a particle accelerator which can accelerate particles at the speed of light in its 27 kilometre round tube which is 100 metres underground. Not only can it accelerate particles at the speed of light but can do it in both directions at the same time and hopefully the particles will collide causing a massive explosion. Why? So scientist can observe what happens! Why? They are trying to recreate the big bang which stated the whole universe thing.
The lady in the attached clip is very excited about these collisions and talks about how they are using liquid Carbon dioxide ( Dry Ice) to cool the collision point because of the MASSIVE radiation that will come from the collisions.
What could go wrong? Apparently this collision makes splitting the atom seem like child's play. What could go wrong? The collision could trigger a huge explosion which will cause a vacuum/ black hole to appear sucking in the whole universe into oblivion!
Why are they doing this experiment if it is so dangerous? No one can say why or what the benefits are to mankind other than the scientists want to watch the collision and see what happens, thats it!
Happy to be educated in the benefits
Thanks Bren
