British Ambassador Misleadingly Shares 12-Year-Old Photo Implying Russian Book Burning in Ukraine
British Ambassador to Ukraine Melinda Simmons has been blasted online for sharing a photo of a 'burning' at a Ukrainian rally in 2010, seeming to imply that the picture was depicting recent events linked to the Russian military action in the country.
“Burning Ukrainian history books is not denazification. It is the opposite,” Simmons tweeted, before outraged commenters labeled the post as “misinformation” and “embarrassing."
The image appears to come from 2010, when pro-Russian demonstrators held a meeting in Simferopol, Crimea - then Ukraine - and burned several history textbooks as part of the protest.
