RUSSIAPHOBIA EXPLAINED: A man at lunchtime sits on a bench in the London Zoo and drinks beer. Suddenly, he sees a little girl fall into an enclosure with crocodiles. He bravely jumps into the enclosure and saves the child from certain death. Another zoo visitor praises the man: ‘Your act of bravery characterizes you as an English gentleman.’ To which the saviour replies: ‘I am Russian.’ The following day, the headline appeared in the English newspapers: ‘Drunken Russian stole his lunch from a crocodile.’
