Former Queensland MP’s 25 historical child sex charges quietly dropped.
Twenty-five historical child sex offences against a former Queensland MP were quietly dropped last year, with the case suddenly disappearing from the court system without explanation.
Trevor John Perrett, 80, was the member for Barambah in the South Burnett Region from 1988 to 1998. The electorate was renamed Nanango in 2001 and remains to this day.
Mr Perrett was also the Minister for Primary Industries, Fisheries and Forestry from February 1996 until February 1998. He was elected as an independent with support from the Citizens Electoral Council, before joining the Nationals later in 1988.
He was charged on February 17 last year with eight counts of indecent treatment of girls under 16, 16 counts of indecent treatment of girls under 17 and one count of rape. The charges were laid by the Townsville Child Protection Investigation Unit Historical Team.
