Marrak Potgieter was born in Potchefstroom and grew up in a family of creatives, making the decision in the first grade to become an artist. He was mentored and influenced by his mother, Wilma Potgieter. Marrak earned a graphic design diploma and worked in the signage industry for many years while making art in his free time.
He was married at the age of 22 into another artistic family and embarked on a degree in visual arts. He recently dived into making art on a full time basis. His favourite subjects are animals and people, in a contemporary style, but he has a wide range of interests from stop-motion animation to sculpture and ceramics. Marrak dreams of living in an off-grid community of artists, artisans and open-minded people. “Creativity is a lavish gift from the ultimate Creator.”
