My Declaration of Independence

personal statement of sovereignty

No flag, nor country; no dogma, nor church commands my fealty. My only allegiance is to the great, ineffable source of all that is. I am not patriotic. I am an Earthling. The entire Earth is my home.  I am not bound by tribalism, nationalism, racism, sexism or secularism. I see all human beings as members of the same family. We are all Earthlings. We breathe the same air, travel around the same star and share the same genetic code.

I am free of the mind-numbing addictions of postmodern consumerist society, the soul-sucking ideologies of church and state, and from the fear-based pathologies promulgated by the psychopaths who wage war on all that is sacred.

I do not need, nor want, a guru, priest, pope, ayatollah, rabbi, preacher or proselytizer to set my moral compass. Love is my credo. The same infinite consciousness that creates, sustains and enlivens the universe resides in me and is my only guide.  My sole fealty is to the set of ideals I hold.

I am a fully functional adult human being; and, as such, am responsible for my own thoughts, emotions and actions. My inner child does not need healing or coddling. I am a spiritual warrior and I am proud of my many scars. They offer testament to my willingness to play full out.

I chose to be here now and I live my self-assigned purpose to revere, to relish and to contribute. I am an integral part of all that is; and do not need anything or anyone to complete me. I am already whole.

I do not follow any paved highway girded by directional signs. I forge my own path. I enjoy my journey. It is a great adventure. I am filled with wonder at, and gratitude for, the unfolding universe I inhabit.

I know who I am; and when I look intently and honestly in the mirror, my most deeply felt response is a wry amusement. I am a beach bum who strolls down the sands of time on the beach at the edge of the infinite cosmic ocean.

And now, with that declaration made, I am going to find a beach bar, drink a cold beer and watch the waves rolling up on my beach while soaking up the glorious shining light of my nearest star.
