The pandemic has done a number on the public's trust in the police. Over the past two years, we've seen cops arrest peaceful protesters, shut down birthday parties, and raid churches and homes of pastors who refused to comply with unconstitutional COVID mandates.
But amid the examples of truly atrocious policing, there have been some really good police officers taking a strong moral stance.
Nick Motycka is one of the good cops — he has spent 16 years in a uniform making the community safe, and he's been proud of the work he's done in his 10 years as part of Calgary's police force and the six years with the RCMP before that.
So after he saw the appalling treatment of the Ottawa Freedom Convoy protesters by law enforcement officers, he knew he had to speak up.
Nick filmed a heartfelt message that he shared with some of his colleagues in a private chat. But it didn't take long for that video to leak and go viral.
He's been a good cop, and he put his own health on the line for the safety of Canadians and is now off work for chronic PTSD. He is a soft-spoken guy.
Yet, what he saw happening in Ottawa over the weekend caused him to speak out and share his disgust with how law enforcement officers in the nation's capital were being used as political weapons against Justin Trudeau's enemies.
