“If they don’t do it soon, there will be nothing left but death, destruction, and carnage. This is a war that never should have happened, but it did. The solution can never be as good as it would have been before the shooting started, but there is a solution, and it should be figured out now—not later—when everyone will be DEAD!”
Trumpism. That terrifying extreme of figuring out solutions that don’t involve death, destruction and carnage.
Meanwhile the moderate adults in the room are writing articles saying that it’s time for the US to prove they could win a nuclear war.
The only way to do so being, of course, an actual ****ing nuclear war.
At what point, after exactly how many bombs, how many illegal regime changes, how many disastrous interventions, how many shattered nations, how many hypocritical invasions, how many times supplying arms to foreign militias, foreign armies and foreign terrorists, do we consider the adults in the room.....to be terrorists?
The only real difference I can see is that other terrorists are serious people. Sick people, evil people, but also serious. I take it as a given that the IRA for example genuinely believe their evil horse**** view of the world, and that every lunatic Palestinian or Muslim murderer genuinely believes in the whole backwards Iron Age crap they have been indoctrinated with. They are both vile and sincere.
Russians or Ukrainians who do evil are, on the whole, also pretty serious about it.
It is the peculiar achievement of the modern West that it is lack of seriousness, rather than the over-abundance of seriousness, that makes us evil. It is because the adults in the room are in fact the most indulged adolescents on the planet. It is because everything is a game to them, a game in which the most ludicrous things are equal to or more important than the most serious things. A game in which there are never thought to be consequences of even the most terrible, deadly and substantial foreign policy errors.
Trump has looked at Ukraine with a serious eye, and wants efforts towards immediate negotiations. A Johnson or a Macron or a Trudeau is playing a role, acting in a game, and wants to keep supplying arms, provoking and encouraging and extending the war.
The road to hell is paved with childish petty gods, playing games. ~ Daniel Jupp.
