Folks,
This is genuinely frightening. Cashless money. To those who say “it’s no big deal, I’ve almost stopped using cash years ago”, please be aware that cash is a super critical escape ramp from overarching government control, even if you don’t routinely use it.
Once it’s gone as an option, politicians & others with access to algorithms controlling the use of your money, will have a hideously large influence on your life.
They could prohibit use of your money on anything they decided was undesirable, from takeaway food to ammunition. They can determine where you can spend money, geographically or even retailer by retailer.
Why people don’t immediately see that it’s more or less the end of politics, I don’t know. Political sabotage is bad enough now, but as soon as incumbents have the power to deny you access to spending power, they’ll do it in ways that will make campaigning nearly impossible.
That’s the smallest of my concerns.
Do not allow the executive to ban cash. You’ll never get it back. Government will have totalitarian control over any economic transaction.
Best wishes
Mike
